The Hemp Plant
Hemp is a fast-growing plant that is cultivated for its fibre, hurd and seed. It is one of the most sustainable food sources with many environmental benefits. It is nature’s best air purifier, removing 1.63 tonnes of carbon dioxide per tonne of hemp produced. It uses less water than most crops and it regenerates the soil for richer, cleaner soil with greater crop yield year on year.
As part of the Cannabis family, people mistakenly confuse Hemp with Marijuana as they come from the same Cannabis family. However, hemp is completely different from marijuana in its chemical makeup, cultivation methods and application. By comparison, Hemp contains less than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive substance that gives you the “high”, whilst marijuana contains 5-20% of THC. In other words, consuming Hemp will not make you high.
